Hammers hold off cup announcement

West Ham are currently holding off announcing the annual pre-season Betway cup until the situation on supporters is known.

Last year the Hammers hosted the game without supporters against Bournemouth but are desperate to get fans back for this year’s game at the London Stadium.

They hope the government will announce a lifting of social distancing allowing a full capacity crowd back in Stratford.

The inaugural tournament was held in 2015 at West Ham’s previous home the Boleyn Ground, with the second tournament taking place at the London Stadium in 2016.

The Hammers have only won the Cup they invented themselves once on penalties over the past six years.

2015  West Ham 1 Werder Bremen 2  (Boleyn Ground)

2016 West Ham 2 v Juventus 3  (London Stadium)

2017 Werder Breman 3 v West Ham 2 (Played in Germany)

2018 Mainz 1 v West Ham 1 (West Ham win 7-6 on penalties)

2019 West Ham  2 v  Athletic Bilbao 2 (West Ham lost (2-4 on penalties)

2020 West Ham 3 v AFC Bournemouth 5 (London Stadium without fans present)
