Hammers hopes look dead on striker

|

Olivier-Giroud1Faint hopes among Hammers fans that the club could again attempt to bring Olivier Giroud to the London Stadium look to gave finally been dashed.

The Arsenal striker was a big early target for Slaven Bilic but despite strong advances from ourselves and Marseille the 30 year old is still part of the Gunners set up and was included in the Charity Shield team that yesterday beat Chelsea on penalties at Wembley.

With most believing the Irons need a back up up striker despite Diafra Sakho’s progress, thoughts had again turned to Giroud with Marseille’s interest appearing to recede.

But the striker has now dropped an even heavier hint than previously that future lies with Arsenal despite the arrival of record signing Alexandre Lacazette.

Speaking to French publication SFR Sport Giroud said: “I am an Arsenal player. I have a two-year contract, at least.”

There are still plenty more in the market we could go for, Wellbeck and Lacazette don’t look like a good combination, Perez is still at Arsenal, Batshuayi is unlikely to be first choice at Chelsea, Raul Jimenz has supposedly been watched by us, there is Jota at Brentford as a forward option, we have Martinez already who could step up and do a job even though he probably doesn’t look quite ready for the PL just yet he might surprise us.

  • John says:

He was always my first choice. Oh well

Chris Wood is worth a punt if it’s this type of forward we’re after

  • TRB says:

    No. Not now, not ever

  • FUGMASTER says:

Can we please move on from any further articles on this bloke; he never wanted to leave Arsenal, and was only ever interested in feigning interest inorder to further his case to stay with the gooners.

We need to go younger too and not Jimenez for a #2 they won’t way to much. If get an CF from Arsenal or any player get Perez for the price he is a well rounded CF can hold up play link up and score which gives us a whole new element of striker.
I’d been banging on about Babacar at Foirentinia finished 8th at 24 good future and present replactn for AC if we want the tgt man. 53 goals 15 assists in 151 apps. And has more pace for a big lad.
I like Chris Wood a lot think hr isn’t premier Calibre but hasn’t really had the chance expect for a fee games with Leicester and scored 2 and 1 assists in 7 apps. I would give him a shot.
Think Kelechi was a Miss especially when Buy back was £50m at 20 him and Chic would been quite the front 2 and can play wing..
But in the past. I don’t see us getting the 2 strikers we were promised unless we ship out another.
Would prefer Ryaf Boudebouz which think at price is a must and needed creativity and mid. And Max Arnold 23 intl to start preparing to replace Noble
