Hammers identify Aguerd replacement with Steidtens’ former favourite
West Ham United are reportedly interested in securing the services of Bundesliga defender Jonathan Tah during the January transfer window. This interest arises amidst growing speculation that Hammers defender Nayef Aguerd may be on the verge of departing The London Stadium.
This potential departure would be a significant setback for Hammers manager David Moyes, who diligently pursued the Moroccan defender for nearly two years before successfully signing him. The rumours regarding Aguerd’s reluctance to play for West Ham began circulating two weeks ago.
If West Ham were to agree to Aguerd’s sale, it is believed that the club would seek to recover a substantial portion of the £30 million transfer fee. Interestingly, this happens to be the exact amount Leverkusen would reportedly demand for their German defender.
Jonathan Tah has excelled for Bayer Leverkusen this season, contributing to their current position at the top of the league table. Hammers director of football Tim Steidten is familiar with Tah, having been employed by the German club until the beginning of this season.
Despite the interest, acquiring Tah may prove challenging. Leverkusen are in contention for the league title this season, and they might be reluctant to part ways with a key player midway through the campaign. It is possible that any potential move for the German international defender could be postponed until the summer transfer window.
