Hammers in Byram talks

Sam-ByramWest Ham are tonight edging towards a deal which will see highly rated Sam Byram join the club….but it’s still not done.

ClaretandHugh has learned over the last few minutes as a solid fact that the club’s negotiators have spent the last three days talking to the Leeds defender’s advisers and are HOPEFUL they can make it happen.

The player has held talks with Everton but has now switched his attention to the Irons as David Sullivan and Karren Brady attempt to steal him from under the noses of Roberto Martinez.

Should the club complete the deal it will mean that the two Davids will have dug into their own pockets to make it happen as their is no money available via the club at the moment.

We were told: “There was a danger we would lose out on a very good player if we don’t do it now. Our hand was forced and we are hopeful we can put a deal together over the next few days. Byram is the target.”

The Hammers board have moved quickly over the last few days and it is believed that Slaven Bilic has driven the deal explaining that the club can’t move forward as quckly as he would like until our problem position is filled.”

As the news was being revealed to ClaretandHugh, Jack Sullivan, David’s youngest son tweeted that there could be a surprise signing in the next couple of days.

  1. looks like we may have got him, if so its another English prospect to boot!
    COYI’s

  2. Let him go to Everton, he is another Jenks – if we have scouted him and our scout is recommending us to sign him well I know what I would be doing with the scout. This is a crazy deal that will not bring us to the next level. We need a top RB and he is certainly not the solution. He is the very same as Jenks, decent going forward but cannot defend. Even Leeds played him on the right wing. STOP this madness – do not sign him.

    • get a grip john and stop replying like a right tool you *****! who said he’s our only rightsided signing this year?

    • I must admit to having my doubts as well…although for different reasons. Looking at Leeds forums, they all say that he has lost a yard or two in pace since he had a bad injury a while ago. Hopefully, the club know what they are doing.

  3. I’ve written previously about this player being inconsistent i’ve watched him in the flesh a few times and spoken to leeds fans recently about him. However I feel that for 4 million (I’ve seen reported) its a risk worth taking. Lets be honest 4 million for a 22 year old english player is nothing. Even Ipswich sold tyrone mings for 8 million. I feel that we would regret missing out on this player if he becomes another Cresswell for 4 million. So lets take a gamble and grab this lad – I’d rather have him as a replacement than JOB!

  4. Glad I got the news to you first Hugh before it broke

  5. Poor signing, as always the fans are not listened to – even at 4m not value. I hope this means we send Jenks back to Arsenal. Dagenhamjohn, your replies should be blocked – I think we are all west ham fans here so no need to be insulting anyone. I gave my honest opinion, if you don’t agree then say so without insulting anyone – otherwise stay off this site,

  6. I might get shot down over this but what is wrong with Oxford? Leave Bryam for Everton.

    • I think Oxford should be playing Roman but not at right back, I liked it when he playedas a defensive midfielder, then he had one slightly iffy game and we haven’t seen him except on the bench since. If we are not going to play him, loan him out preferably to some one like Sam Allardyce if he would play him, Sunderlands defence needs quality and if Sam would start him he certainly knows how to teach defending when he likes the player, Oxford has the potential to b at last as good if not better than Rio he just needs a chance.

  7. I have watched Byram a few times and as has been mentioned he is inconsistent but most kids are, I think he is worth the punt and it is unlikely we will lose money on him, hopefully we will see the best of him as he matures and gets that consistency that comes from a big move which is what this will be for him, he will find out that he has to be on his game every game to stay in the team.
