Hammers in league of two halves

A League of Two Halves could yield Euro spot

The Premier League seems to be separating into two, with a slight gap opening up between the two halves in the division. Despite West Ham’s sometimes less than convincing performances, 20 points from 13 games isn’t too bad.

With games against Crystal Palace and Fulham on the horizon, there is a chance for the Hammers to further cement their place in the top 10. With their spending power, Chelsea have the players to bridge the gap, but it could turn out to be an interesting shoot-out for the European places.

Tomas Soucek proved David Moyes' decision right

League of two halves: David Moyes can’t keep relying on Tomas Soucek to rescue him

Depending on how the wind blows, 8th position in the Premier League could yet yield a Europa Conference place for next season. Irrespective of the goalposts moving and easier entry requirements, a fourth season in European competition would be a remarkable achievement.

However, David Moyes must endeavour to get some consistency of performance from his team. Snatching victories from the jaws of defeat in the manner of Forest and Burnley is exciting. But we can’t rely on the rescue acts if we’re going to remain in the shake-up at the end of the season.
