Bid in for Edwards
Remember a couple of weeks ago when CandH ran a story on the Peterborough defender Ronnie Edwards?
Well, it is back on again according to the Evening Standard. It appears that the Irons have made a bid in an attempt to sign him up before the Friday deadline.
Young Edwards has really improved since coming through the academy at Barnet, but it would be doubtful if he would be ready to push for a spot in the team alongside the likes of Kurt Zouma, Nayef Aguerd, Angelo Ogbonna and Dinos Mavropanos.
Nevertheless he has starred for Posh over the past couple of seasons and at just 20, he looks set to have a bright future ahead of him.
He’s highly-rated by Peterborough’s chairman, Darragh MacAnthony, who admitted he was surprised Edwards was still at the club last month.
He said per the Peterborough Telegraph: “It’s an absolute joke Ronnie is still here . We are all amazed and it’s not because we are being greedy or silly.
“He’s as good as he’s ever been, He answered all the questions about him after the gaffer came back to the club in January. He was outstanding in both legs of the play-offs when he was up against some giants.
“You should have seen him against Leicester when he didn’t make a mistake or give the ball away against some top players.
“He’s now far too good for us and I don’t believe he will still be with us when the season starts as he is made for some of the teams in the Premier League.
This is not me making an advert for him, but clubs need to be serious and do the right deal.” as quoted by the Peterborough Telegraph.
Edwards impressed for Posh last season under Darren Ferguson as they narrowly missed out on promotion after a play offs semi-final defeat to Sheffield Wednesday.
The two clubs are now allegedly in talks over a final fee, with Friday’s transfer deadline at 11pm looming large to get a deal done in time.
Much as Moyes loves a centre half, we don’t really need another, but if we are going to sign one, a 20 year old prospect would please me. Edwards or Maguire? For me, always Edwards. We really need full back cover however, quite urgently if Cress and Ben J move on.
