West Ham’s success in eastern Europe is down to the development of new contacts with their fingers on the pulse of football in an area of the globe often forgotten by other Premier League clubs.
The arrival of Nikola Vlasic from CSKA Moscow and Alex Kral from Spartak Moscow weren’t the result of a lucky dip draw but of hard work in setting up a network of informed contacts in countries once considered to be behind what was known as the Iron Curtain..
The Kral signing was of course helped by his relationship with Tomas Soucek and Vladi Coufal but was engineered in the early stages along with that of Vlasic by a new Hammers contacts in the area.
It augurs well for the future as the club develops areas of the globe which to some extent have been previously overlooked by the Premier League outfits.
A Hammers insider said: “We have developed good contacts in the area and we have been seeing the results. We are confident the two boys from Moscow clubs will be top level and that the hard work we have put in will pay off!”
