Servette 0 Hammers 2
By Hughie Southon
Our Academy boys led the way as the Irons opened their pre-season campaign in Switzerland with goals from Aji Alese and Divin Mubama.
But Servette were no pushovers, hitting the woodwork on several occasions and always posing a threat,
The first goal came when the Servette keeper dropped a Lanzini free kick and the under 23 was presented with a simple tap in after 27 minutes.
Mubama found the net early in the second half after his shot a minute earlier had been saved earlier with Benrahma then side footing wide from eight yards.
The youngster back heeled his effort into the net a minute later after Benny made amends for the earlier error with a fine ball into the box.
The Swiss side certainly had their moments but with a near under 23 side on the pitch at the end we always looked relatively comfortable and indeed VERY FIT.
Conor Coventry was probably the stand out player over the 90 minutes showing good short and long passing whilst young Ashby got forward well from right back.
Manager David Moyes will be more than happy with this as a starting point and it was particularly good that he gave the the youngsters every chance to show what they have in their lockers.
Youngsters indeed did well.
Seniors pretty poor especially first half.
Diop,Alese and Zouma looked good in a back 3.
Coventry and Ashby excellent.
Ekwah and Mumba did well. Promising
Masuaku awful.
Great to hear about the young players Hugh. To see us line up with Ashby, Alese and Coventry and they perform in a composed manner can only hone their skills and mindset.
