Seemingly since Kyle Macaulay’s arrival at West Ham in February, the club have been ‘scouting’ the same Colombian midfielder : Just last week Claret and Hugh’s article  entitled ‘still scouting Midfielder after CWC screamer’ confirmed the Irons renewed continued interest  in Monterrey’s Nelson Deossa.

On twitter, Medio Tiempo reported that the Irons had finally got off the fence and that a bid had been initiated – whatever that means. Deossa is currently the subject of considerable interest from within South America, in addition to the suggested West Ham bid which was reported by several UK outlets last night.

Deossa impressed at the club world cup

Poor quality screen grab- apologies. The text reads:”They want him in the Premier League: Exclusive!

@WillieGzz reveals that West Ham made a FORMAL OFFER for Nelson Deossa  They offered more than 13M US$”
Earlier this year, Deossa signed for Monterrey, as per Claret and Hugh’s previous article – where he’s since blossomed into one of Liga Mexico’s stand-out midfielders. Monterrey apparently want around US$16 million ( about £12 million) and are looking at interest from Roma, Real Betis and Palmeiras. Roma have already made contact with the player’s representatives and see the Colombian as a cost-effective midfield option.

Whether the Hammers have decided to take the risk on a player untested in the Premier league remains to be seen: With Alvarez, Paqueta, Rodriguez and Luis Guilherme already assimilated into the squad, perhaps Nelson Deossa could  make a success of crossing the Atlantic too. With seven goals and three assists in the Mexican top flight last season, he’s clearly got an eye for goal.

Interesting, though, that the West Ham links seem to have come at a time when Palmeiras are looking to recruit their own Richard Rios replacement: Maybe a bit of agent skulduggery to try and push a deal along? Could well be. I’ve not seen anything of the player’s performance so time for some digging and delving, lest the ‘links’ between West Ham and Deossa start to become more than just tweets.

From the old Bobby Moore Upper to the Billy Bonds' stand these days - sometimes- have to admit I have not renewed my season ticket... I've been watching since '03 and a supporter since about 1970..
Favourite player - Dean Ashton: Still watch YouTube repeats of the Cup Final of 2006 hoping in vain that Shaka Hislop grows six inches and stops Steven Gerrard's injury time equaliser. Can tell I'm getting old knowing I saw both Mark Noble's debut and his last game at West Ham.
Pulling on a Claret and Blue replica shirt still makes me feel the same butterflies as when I was seven years old. Magic.
