West Ham may be priced out of a move for Liverpool’s Harvey Elliott, but they’ve received some good news on one of the alternatives named by ExWHUEmployee this week.
Leicester City midfielder Bilal El Khannouss is believed to be one of the options for the playmaker/attacking midfielder role that the Hammers will surely look to fill. The 21-year-old was one of the few Foxes to emerge with any credit from their relegation last season—and it appears he’s a wanted man.
Everton and Sunderland are also understood to be chasing the Moroccan, with some interest reportedly coming from the Saudi Pro League as well. But it now seems that any interested clubs will be able to sign him for a discounted price of £22.5m due to a relegation release clause in his contract.
That wouldn’t represent a massive profit for Leicester, who purchased the skilful El Khannouss from Genk for £20m just 12 months ago.
Presumably, West Ham have at least that transfer fee available—having just signed El Hadji Malick Diouf for a similar amount after banking £55m from the sale of Mohammed Kudus.
Of the players listed by Ex earlier this week, my personal pick would be Mateus Fernandes—but that’s not to discount El Khannouss. He’s Premier League-proven and would continue the important theme of lowering the average age of Graham Potter’s squad.

On the subject of being skint and priced out Can somebody on here explain to me the restriction rules on paying out for new players The majority of signings we made last year come from the sales of Declan Rice and others So the board literally paid out nothing from there own pockets Then at the end of last season we make a huge bid for Duran whitch didnt materialize We are reportedly one of the richest clubs in europe Yet here we are with our hands tied with just one signing while watching other clubs around us strengthen there sides
Definitely Mateus Fernandes for me as well. Got a feeling the guy from Leicster will be another Benrahma
He is not a player I would want again I think it’s another player we could loose due to AFCON. Like you I would prefer Fernandez but this week Man City announced some players that were available for sale and Nico O’Reilly was on there he played I think last 12 games for City as a LWB (scored in Cup Final I think )when he was very good but his position really is Midfield and Attacking Midfield and would not cost no more than 17 million.
Gonzo fernandes would be my choice as well only because we can’t afford to lose 3 players to afcon also think he would be better.
