Last month, C&H wrote a report linking West Ham with a move for Olympiacos striker Charalampos Kostoulas.
It followed information received that the Hammers had been scouting the talented forward, who was believed to be high on the list for Kyle MacAulay and Graham Potter.
Fast forward to now, and it would appear that Brighton & Hove Albion are on the cusp of signing Kostoulas, who is rated one of the most promising young strikers in Europe.
Now, it could very well be that the Ā£30m player is deemed too much of a risk and that Potter has completely switched his attention to Lucas Stassin. However, it does highlight how financially handcuffed West Ham currently are when the club can’t actively contest for transfer targets.
Even if the Hammers had wanted to battle Brighton for the Greek wonderkid, we would have had to wait until players were sold.
While it may be very early in the transfer windowāwhich is now closed until Mondayāover half of the Premier League teams have already recruited players. West Ham, on the other hand, are still waiting to sell before we can buy, but there’s just one problem: nobody is buying.
West Ham run the very real risk of falling behind our competitors before a ball has even been kicked, and while we delay and procrastinate, other clubs are signing the players the Hammers have been scouting.
Should’ve got rid of Moyes a year before. Potter was available then and would’ve had the 150 mill spent by Loppy for mostly duds. Spuds didn’t wait long to get rid of Posy after winng the EL.
Hmm. Makes me wonder who is going to get upset about not signing players that weāve never heard of and donāt even know if we were even in for in the first place. Who gets off in this stuff I wonder. Clearly thereās a market for it but whatās the point? Who needs that kind of negative energy in their life?
By declaring we are skint and need to sell before we buy, we have given all the cards to the rest of Europe!!
Why would another club bid for any of our players right now? With the knowledge we’re skint, any buying club would hold out, watch us get desperate, then put peanuts on the table, which in our desperation we’ll have to take.
You couldn’t make it up just HOW BAD our strategy is!!!
Westham are paralyzed . Several minority owners who can’t or won’t inject a very , very small amount of cash plus a dour coach who’s been tasked with signing players ( something he’s never done before ) , all adds up to a lot of trouble for Westham . The strategy of waiting for months and then getting the dregs for cheap isn’t going to work . With this mix of hierarchy it’s looking like amateur night at the karaoke bar and leaves Westham frighteningly close to Championship level football . Relegation is not just a two blip , it guts a clubs finances to the point of causing a 5 year plus reversal of fortunes . It’s already too late but the owners need to step aside for the professionals .
We do not know what is going on in the recruitment area, but we can make intelligent guesses about how things are looking; & they are that things are NOT looking good. You could easily be looking at a team that is not going to sign ANY players of any quality this summer. Those that we want donāt want to come to us because of the lack of any European football, because of our dismal showing last season, & because we are unable to pay them enough. Add to that the small matter of not, apparently, being able to afford to buy them, & it would seem another season in the lower regions of the league beckon. It just does not look good ! So, if you are one of the supporters who want to see our young hopefuls being given a chance, you may well get what you are hoping for. I count myself among those who do; but I would also like to see some quality signings too. Doesnāt look, at this stage, that I am going to see any of them !
Still waiting for those with “sources” inside the club to ask where the Ā£56million we were bidding with in January has gone? but nope not an answer to be found.
Pat.. if you’d have read the many articles on the subject, you’d know it was Ā£56m on the ‘never never’ that probably didn’t exist in the first place. when you offer to buy a house for Ā£250,000 you don’t actually have Ā£250,000 nestling in your bank account: you probably never actually have more that 10%; you cross your fingers and hope you can borrow the rest.
we aren’t Delaying & procrastinating!! In your own words, we have to sell before we can buy!!!
Get Sullivan out and take the Parasite Kretinsky with him – sod off to Prague ! not here to invest just to take his cut. Was the same in Terry Brown days, when Lawyers, Accountants etc joined the board for a slice only, not to invest.
Pariahs, the lot of them !
No need to worry because Graham Potter apparently says that it will be an exciting and interesting transfer window. Although I can’t help feeling that someone has already closed the curtains on our window!
Same old story we find ourselves being out smarted out bid to sign players that we should be moving heaven and earth to sign we keep being told that the club has no money to spend and that we have to sell before we can bring in new players itās a farce any clubs that are looking to sign players from us will hold out till just before the window slams shut so they can get our players on the cheap letās be honest if we knew that a club was in that situation we would do that as we all know everything with Sullivan is on the cheap we need new owners ones that have the same ambition as the fans and are committed to see the club do well rather than what we have now Sullivan and co have got to go otherwise the future is extremely bleak and as for next season well we are more likely to finish where Southampton did this season
Sullivan or the board could stick money in and get it back once kudus is sold I’m sure other clubs will do that long as the books are good in December when the the accounts are submitted but we all know Sullivan wont and it’s now also plain that kretinsky is only in it as an investment yet his other club hes building a new stadium, when you see what other clubs are doing, apart from the fanbase we don’t act like a big club
Say it again Championship here we come. Blame Sulivan and the board. Don’t blame the manager if he can’t get in the players he wants!
What a load of shit, we gave the money but they are lying to us fans!
We are dragging our feet as days pass watching our competitors get stronger Suits our board dosnt it so not to spend money This is the beginning We will still be in the same situation in a months time I expect If this dosnt tell you our club owners have no ambition and dont care less attitude nothing will
Absolutely true but have you noticed how much revenue Wolves have made over the last two seasons, it’s staggering. Every summer window the sell players at vast profits but we continue to buy players at the end of their careers and no sell on value whatsoever it’s scandalous. And ladies and gentlemen we all know whose responsible!
Long time reader, infrequent poster.
A lot of these articles refer to wanting this player, that player and how we are missing out and falling behind. That’s without the backdrop of frequent updates on the lack of funds available, how we are limited by PSR and the need to sell before we buy – particularly on C&H, although different sites suggest otherwise. I understand you have your sources, and you use them to get ‘useful’ information, but wonder if the need to post every possible story is part of the problem for the fanbase. C&H, ‘EX’ and so on do a great job keeping us fans informed, but sometimes less is more. We are all aware the squad needs an overhaul after the shambles of last season – however, going back to the end of the last Summer window, there was a lot of talk about WH winning the transfer window! This mini window only exists due to the CWC – and it’s feeding the narrative that we are failing, however the summer is long, the new season weeks away and we have a manager 6 months into the job – no need to panic yet, patience is an often forgotten trait.
Have a look at what teams like Brighton liverpool brentford Bournemouth are doing wolves even teams that we should be competing with but are falling behind macaulay came armed with a massive portfolio of players from his time at Chelsea hes been in the job six months yet we have done nothing we have a massive rebuild we can’t afford to wait until the end of the window to bring in another nine players
This is part of the problem! How do we know we aren’t competing? Are any of the players signed by those teams listed really ‘wanted’ by WH or Potter? Most stories are pushed by agents, or owners in our case, to push agendas and garner interest in players who are on the move – WH are linked each window with 100s of players, most of whom I would imagine we have no interest in what so ever. Additionally, contracts don’t expire until end of June, so we are still incumbered by Ings Ā£125K a week for example. As for the massive portfolio of players from Chelsea, I’m not sure more than 2 or 3 would really be worth taking and lets not get started on how they avoided PSR to get that portfolio!
We are a joke
agree 100% matt, have to wait and see come 1st September. But in the meantime, did you hear the rumour…
What’s the point having a billionaire owner that won’t put any money into the club ?
other clubs always have money to spend !! where is our money from 60 plus thousand every home game.. sullivan surely has to back our new manager!!!
