Hammers linked to new striker target

|
West Ham are today linked with a new striker target – Nigerian striker Josh Maja.

According to the Mirror, the Hammers are one of a number of Premier League clubs ready to move for the 20 year old who is out of contract in June.

But they will face stiff competition from Spurs, Man City, Wolves and Palace who are all credited with an interest along with a number of Nundesliga outfits.

He is Sunderland’s top scorer in the league and tallied his 16th goal of the season as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Scunthorpe United on Saturday.
According to some reports The Black Cats have the intention of selling Maja within the next eleven days or risk losing him for a little compensation in the summer.

ClaretandHugh says: Sixteen goals at league One level hardly seems what the Hammers require as they seek striker reinforcements this winter. And despite the mention of the Black Cats being ready to sell the striker that may be somewhat over cooked. The Mackems have suffered the worst possible situation over recent seasons and are desperate for a return to the Championship this season. Currently they sit in third place in League One with a game in hand on both Luton and Portsmouth. It seems to us that the striker’s prolific strike rate may be sufficient to see him do very well at the second level and it seems more likely the club will be trying to negotiate a new deal rather than sell for around the £5 million mentioned in this report which, after all buys very litle in the current market. At this stage a Premier League move looks unlikely.
