Hammers linked with £12.75m bid for defender

aymenAccording to Sky Italia West Ham have made a €18m (£12.75m) offer for Monoco defender Aymen Abdennour.

David Amoyal who writes for  gianlucadimarzio.com adds “When Monaco played at Juve Stadium in Champions League, Abdennour was the player that impressed Serie A scouts the most. West Ham close to getting him”

His agent has previously confirmed numerous clubs that have expressed interest in the player’s services this summer.

The agent believes Monaco are unlikely to come in the way of Abdennour’s departure, with Liverpool, AC Milan, Inter Milan, Barcelona and West Ham said to be interested in signing him.

“There are clubs who have approached us and who will enter into contact with Monaco,” his agent Abdelkader Jilani told Foot Mercato.

The Tunisia defender has been in brilliant form this season, notably during their game against Arsenal at  in the Champions League, restricting the Gunners to a solitary goal, which helped them secure qualification into the quarter-final stage of Europe’s top tournament.

  1. Still seems unlikely but you never know. We seem to have a lot of CBs so I wonder if anyone’s heading for the exit.

  2. Well… we need to reinforce at the back, but these sums make my head hurt!! Not used to this bleeding as a west ham fan..!

Guess they plan to break the estimated £30 mill budged, at least i hope so because we need at least 3-4 more players of significance.

know nothing of this player, hope someone can confirm he’s worth the money mentioned.

  3. Yeah we’re good in central defence.. I’m more eager to see something sorted at RB, and a proper cover for cressie!

  4. It makes no sense unless we are going to 3 at the back. We have Collins, Reid and Tomkins established. And from what I hear Henry could be as good if not better than Reid. So we have 4 top centre halves. The jury is still out on young Burke but I do rate Oxford and I think he could do a job this season even at right full. So I do not see the need here unless he can play at RB and if he can great because I would not go near Jenks. In my opinion a complete waste of money. It’s about time people got a sense of reality with this guy – played for 21s the other night looked poor. I would be keeping this money and spending it on players like Salah – he is top class.

    • Great comments John.

    • If you think we have four top centre halves John you are living on another planet, lol, apart from Reid they are average, mediocre players with regards to Tomkins & Ginge. We need a upgrade on centreback big time.Slav & the board clearly understand this.

  5. On second thought, we’re supposed to take a step up this year. At the same time we are going to play potentially a lot more games. While I am fond of both Ginge and Tomka, I will not say they are top 5 class. If that is the ambition, we will need a better CB alongside Reid. Burke and Oxford may prove to develop into quality, but at 17 and 19 it is way too early at defence. IMO.

  6. Honestly John, my personal opinion is that Reid is a good player, but I’m not sure about Tomkins and Collins. Yes Burke seems to be very good but I think West Ham should buy another top defender. I don’t see a true leader on defense. I agree, Salah is a class player but he has a very high cost and maybe he’s quite similar to Payet… 😉

  7. Haha.. good to see we’re on the same pahe matte!! 😉

after watching this guy on youtube I’m convinced. Looks like a real handful. Possess great pace, aggressive but good tackler, great technique and seemingly attacking mindset. Haven’t seen a defender like that in C&B since…??

    • ahah… I didn’t notice it Eriko, you’re right… maybe we separated at birth.. lol 😉

  8. Collins has done a job for us but he is not good enough to stay on our ride onwards & upwards. Not sure Tomkins is either, squad player yes but i think he has reached his limit. Bit by bit the squad is being improved, I might be in the minority here but i do see CB as a position that needs attention.
BFS stifled the life out of the club, his style prevented anyone from developing into a top player.

  9. Heresy Essex! Everyone knows BFS the genius hippo was the best coach, manager and tactician in the world who could manage at every level. That he chose to avoid the glitz and glamour of trophy winning is neither here nor there. Every team he has improved and left in such good shape they go onto great things……oh scratch that I thought we were talking about Guardiola.
Slav has a rebuild and improvement to do and whichever position he sees fit to improve I back his judgement.

  10. Two top players have commited to the cause,i am more than happy for now ..next get rid of the dead wood, see how much is left in the warchest and get another couple of top players in. it looks like jenks and song will be with us soon. The future looks good.

  11. My mate in France says he is a beast. Would love to see him at West ham

  12. Makes sense. This is now where we are thinnest, especially as We still don’t have Jenkison tied down

  13. We do need another quality centrehalf. In my opinion we dont have the fantastic cbs some think we have.Reid is the best but they are all just good average prem defenders.Nothing special for sure 😉

  14. Sometime ago when asked about Austin, DS said that the positions being targetted by Bilic were midfield where we light and defence with right back and centre back suggested, hopefully Jenk’s will sign at right back so that leave CB so there may be some truth in the rumour.

  15. This would be an interesting one if it comes off but sometimes a defense is only as good as a midfield in front of it. With the signing of Obiang and potentially Song the protection in front of it would be strong, a RB is a must but let’s take the silly money for Downing and get Tore in and bin off captain no legs, the 11 million pound flop Jarvis and get an out and out striker…We’re moving forward the sun has set on the Hippo era lets just remove the Curtis clan and we’ll be laughing

  16. Yes GW,like your positivity. But for me a qualtiy centre back is a must.We dont have top quality centre backs as some believe.Decent but nothing more than that atm apart from Reid.If our cbs are of such quality as some suggest then why does none of the better clubs than us ever want them during the transfer windows.Winnie couldnt get a sniff,Tonks aint good enough to step up & Collins is a battler but getting on.We really do need more quality at the back. What we have are average, average aint good enough 😉
