West Ham are reportedly interested in signing Ireland defender Jake O’Brien.
The Cork-born defender has been attracting interest from across Europe after a breakthrough season with Lyon in Ligue 1. According to recent media reports, he is now on the Hammers’ radar.
Speculation around Nayef Aguerd’s future has led West Ham to be linked with several centre-backs, and the 6ft 6in O’Brien has apparently been identified as a player with significant potential.
O’Brien has completed only one season in France following a permanent move from Crystal Palace, and Lyon rebuffed interest in him during the January transfer window.
Everton have been monitoring the progress of the 23-year-old and remain interested. Additionally, there has been attention from Serie A, with AC Milan believed to be keen among others.
West Ham, however, have emerged as an intriguing option for the late-developing talent, who is in contention to make his first international start against Portugal on Tuesday.
He made an impressive debut for Ireland off the bench in the second half of their 2-1 victory over Hungary earlier this week.
Zzzzz, new player why not just say we linked to everyone..? just an idea
