Hammers linked with Brazilian ace

West Ham are interested in a deal to sign Gerson from Marseille, according to a new report.

Goal Brasil reports that the midfielder is at the centre of something of a transfer tussle.

Marseille signed Gerson in 2021 but the report claims that his former club Flamengo, in Brazil, are trying to engineer a return.

The player’s father is said to have told those around him that his son was going to be moving back to his homeland, which has somewhat irritated Marseille.

It means that the club have instructed intermediaries to explore other potential options, and that’s where the Irons come in.

The Irons are said to have been contacted, although they too have been annoyed by his father, who continues to make noises about his son going back to Flamengo.

A club in Spain are also said to be interested, but it remains to be seen if the Irons will formalise their interest in January.

Gerson has made 61 appearances for Marseille, scoring 13 goals and laying on 10 assists.

He is capable of playing as a central midfielder and an attacking midfielder.
