Hammers linked with Clarets keeper

West Ham has been linked with a summer move for Burnley’s goalkeeper Nick Pope with a move away from Turf Moor.

Bookmakers have priced up the likes of Spurs as favourites at (9/2) with Liverpool and West Ham joint second-favourites with odds at (6/1) odds of luring away the 24-year-old ace.

Pope, who could be in line to become England’s number one for the upcoming rescheduled Euro 2020 tournament still has over two years left on his existing Clarets contract, and is unlikely to be sold on the cheap

Speculation in the media have suggested it would take a bid in the region of £50m to prise away the shot-stopping sensation which perhaps makes a Hammers move unlikely by David Moyes.

Last month, when asked by the Burnley Express whether there was any better goalkeeper in the country than Pope, Clarets boss Sean Dyche revealed: “I’m going to say not, because I’m his manager, and I have great value in him, his form and how he goes about it.

“He continues to improve in my opinion. I’m completely biased but he’s in very good form, that’s for sure.”

  1. Seriously, why not approach Jasper? Undoubtedly, one of the best goalies on the planet. And, he’s frustrated with current situation. Drawback is… I doubt he would want to move to London, and frankly. I fully understand. But you can ask, or do you want me to?

  2. Or Johnston from WBA? Like Pope but that price is silly.

  3. Might be nice to buy the next big thing in goalkeeping. Pope is certainly an upgrade on Pickford. But we already have a brilliant keeper in Fabianski. Surely he has another couple of seasons in him at least. Randolph is more than adequate as back up. Martin has experience too. Trott is promising. Can’t see why we would need someone new. We tried that last season. Roberto cost a lot because he was good. Turned out to be not so good. All for progress and making plans for the future but unless Fabianski is about to leave us, I can’t see us forking out loads of money on a promise.

  4. I like Pope, but can’t see us having £50m to spend on him.
Hopefully Moyes is searching for another backup and eventual replacement for Fabianski. Randolph is a decent band aid, but can’t see him as a regular starter.

  5. Burnley will not sell their top players cheap as we know, especially with new owners. Forget it. What about Trott, aren’t we developing him after a loan period? Our strategy cannot be to offer a huge fee for a contracted 24 year old international at Burnley!
