Hammers linked with speedy winger AGAIN

West Ham United are reportedly keeping an eye on Wilfried Gnonto’s situation at Leeds United. Last summer, there was intense speculation about Gnonto’s transfer, but he stayed with the Championship side.

Despite Leeds rejecting a £25 million offer from Everton for the player, he has now fallen down the pecking order, featuring only 20 times in the team’s first 26 league games. West Ham were strongly linked with the Italian during the summer transfer window when he was once valued at £40 million.

Gnonto signed for Leeds in the summer of 2023, joining from FC Zurich in a deal worth a £4 million.

Wilfred Gnonto is a target for West Ham

Hammers linked with speedy winger: Leeds United’ Gnonto breaks away from Thilo Kehrer last season.

It’s fair to assume the Yorkshire club will get nowhere near the money they want for the player. He remains an attacker with huge potential but that’s really all it is. I can’t imagine Hammers manager David Moyes sanctioning a move for Gnonto but West Ham are desperately short of effective attackers in wide areas.

Only last season the Italian speedster was hailed as one of Europe’s most promising talents. I’m quite sure the right manager will get the youngster back on track, but I doubt West Ham is the place to do it. At this moment in time Ajax’s Steven Bergwijn is by far the better option.
