Hammers look all set to sell defender

|
Kehrer-West Ham-substitute-Thilo Kehrer is reportedly a transfer target for Aston Villa and Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt. The 27-year-old arrived at the London club from Paris Saint-Germain in the summer of 2022. The report emanates from Sky Sports Austria, who claim that Kehrer has caught the eye of Unai Emery. Aston Villa is on an unexpected title charge, and the Midlands board will be looking to give Emery funds to strengthen the squad. Kehrer has fallen out of favor at West Ham and is currently out of David Moyes' plans. With Nayef Aguerd traveling to the African Cup of Nations next month, Kehrer may yet get a chance to play this season. However, it would be completely understandable if the player pushed for a move. When he joined West Ham, Kehrer was a German international playing for PSG. It would be hard to blame him if he were to swap a place on the West Ham bench for the chance at a title chase.

Football ITK Fabrizio Romano’s claim that Thilo Kehrer could be on his way to Roma where he is fancied by Jose Mourinho looks about right. The Hammers look all set sell the defender.

When Claret and Hugh asked its key source a few days ago which players were likely to be available for sale during the winter window Kehrer’s was volunteered immediately.

It’s odd that the player who cost David Moyes £10 million has been used so rarely over the season  with his tally of Premier League appearances a mere four so far.

Both Ben Johnson, Konstaninos Mavropanos and Vladi Coufal have been preferred to his when any of them may have been injured.

The Hammers will be hoping to receive a similar £10 million for Kehrer as they paid to Paris St Germain when signing the German defender on a four year contract.

That they want to sell him so quickly is something of a surprise but this would not be the first time Moyes has been ready to offload a player so soon after buying him.

However, this time around we may even make money rather than lose it as with three years left on his contract the Hammers won’t be ready to let him leave on the cheap as has so often been the case on previous occasions.
