Esteban Cambiasso could be the next player into West Ham.

The Telegraph – usually quite reliable on things Hammers – reports tonight that the player has turned down a Leicester City contract and as a free agent appeals to the Irons.

The Telegraph claims we considered signing the former Real Madrid and Inter Milan star last summer and that he could arrive rather than Alex Song whose could keep him out of action for four months..

Slaven Bilic may now well be seeing Cambiasso  as a realistic alternative because although he turns 35 next month, former Argentina international was superb for Leicester last season and played a major part in their incredible survival in the Premier League.

  1. Yes we have many midfielders, but like you said quickdraw, with Song on hold who knows… We have in fact a very young squad now and this guy has done it all. He’s 35 and won’t expect to start every game. I say his experience will do us good, and next year he’s off again anyways. It’s a long and tiring season, and looking at the defensive qualities in our midfield there’s Nobes and Poyet.. who else?

  2. Waste of money, he is too old and lost his appeal, he will bring nothing to the club and is just making us more unlikely to get other players that we could actually use

  3. Waste of what money? free agent and probably low salary.

Too old and lost his appeal? Did you see him this very year at Leicester? He’s the same age as Gerrard, and look what Fat Frank, Drogba, Scholes, Giggs.. Di Canio for that matter, how did they play at 35 and beyond?

He’s a dedicated professional, he’s been at the best clubs in the world and actually played year in and out.

We don’t have one single player over 29 in the likely starting line up, his experience if only in the dressing room would be vital!!

He might not be the most popular at this club, but Kevin Nolan is maybe the only older guy with some integrity behind the curtains.. and he’s leaving.

I see no risk taking Cambiasso flr one year

  4. Cambiasso was a class act last year.Is why Ranieri was desperate to keep him 😉

  5. I have to defend my Nordic friend Eriko (not that he needs it) and say if we got the Cambiaso of last season he would be a quality and experienced addition to the squad. I should also point out to Eriko that we do have Kouyate and Obiang in the squad who are both classed as DMs

  6. These newspaper reports are totally unreliable. I don’t know why Claret&Hugh feels the need to repeat what has been made up elsewhere. I only want to read about real breaking news, or genuine quotes from the club directors or coaching staff, tbh……

  7. I’m not sure how you’ll change that TRB all the West Ham sites do it from C&H to KUMB all the way to WHTID (lol) as do the papers it’s the way of the modern transfer window. People may prefer the old days of just hearing announcements but if you want that switch off your wifi,TV and don’t buy a paper. Not much choice I’m afraid.

  8. Go to the Official Site then!!

  9. Cambiasso didn’t play last season as a DM, as Eriko mentioned he would add some age and a lot of experience into the team, might prove an inspired signing if it were to happen. He plays with such enthusiasm and is a busy player that could prove infectious in our hardworking midfield, he can also score a goal or two.

  10. Good player cool head does not give the ball away cheaply,as are Viking said FREE,
Not £85K a week. And injured for 4 months,
We can go back for Song in Jan transfer window, and no one said we would still not get any other players,
Just give away the dead wood NOW

  11. As mentioned above his age doesnt matter. Look at lampard drogba etc. Please anyone tell me if we were offered any of those names for 1 season you would say no?!

Cambiasso is easily up there with those names, last season he was unbelievably good and if I remember rightly even gave us hammers a few heart stops. More importantly, what our youngsters would learn from a man of his experience and calibre is priceless. Its important for every team to have someone to look up to in the dressing room and he could be that man for 1 season.

  12. He was fantastic for Leicester last season. My friend is a Foxes fan for his sins & said he was superb for the team both on & off the pitch.
