Hammers made ‘favourites’ to get Gomez

Maxi Gomez has been made made a narrow favourite to join the Hammers ahead of Valencia this summer.

As the transfer saga takes on all the signs of being a long runner the bookies have come to the conclusion that we are marginally in front of the La Liga club to grab the player.

Manuel Pellegrini has set his sights on the Celta Vigo front man since before the last winter window but newly qualified Champions League outfit Valencia are now bang in the frame.

However, with reports that their bid has broken down today, the Irons are now back in pole position for the 22 year old.

Skybet have him priced at 6/5 to wear claret and blue next season whilst the Spanish outfit are just behind in the betting at 11/8.

Meanwhile, the player the Hammers hope he will replace – Andy Carroll – is being quoted at 6/1 for a Newcastle return with Rangers at 7/1 to get him and Slaven Bilic’s West Brom entering the betting at 8/1.

  3. The fact we’re even in the running for this transfer speaks volumes for the best signings we’ve made in the past 12 months – Pelle and Husillos.
