Hammers made huge bid for Serie A star

West Ham made a big bid worth €40m for Napoli midfielder Piotr Zielinski, according to a new report in Italy.

The Serie A club have enjoyed a sensational start to the season, winning 10 and losing just two of their 12 games in 2022/23.

Zielinski has been central to that form, playing in every game and scoring once, while also laying on four assists.

He has also scored three goals and registered two assists in the Champions League.

And a new report from Corriere dello Sport claims that the Hammers made a major bid worth £35.1m for the Poland international in the summer when on the lookout for midfield reinforcements.

Zielinski ultimately decided to stay at Napoli because he wanted to continue playing in the Champions League; Napoli won Group A ahead of Liverpool, Ajax and Rangers.

He has a contract with the club until 2024 and is still just 28, meaning he’s not likely to leave Napoli any time soon.
