Hammers make Barca move

West Ham have made a move to sign Barcelona goalkeeper Neto, according to a new report in Spain.

Fichajes reports that the stopper is available in the January transfer window, with the Catalan giants keen to offload him.

Marc-Andre ter Stegen is the undisputed No.1 at the Camp Nou but Neto is said to be keen to play regularly in order to force his way into the Brazil squad for next year’s World Cup.

The goalkeeper has won one cap for his country but is struggling immensely for minutes at Barca, playing just twice in La Liga this year.

In total, he has 19 appearances under his belt and he is now ready to move on.

The Hammers are said to have made an approach towards Neto’s entourage to gauge his interest in a move, as the Hammers lay the groundwork for replacing Lukasz Fabianski.

It remains to be seen if the deal will be struck in January or if the Irons will wait until the summer, given that Alphonse Areola is currently providing back-up to the Pole.

  1. Signing a 32 year old doesn’t really fit with Moyes’s vision of a young, hungry team does it?
