Hammers midfielder set to leave within 24 hours

Hammers midfielder Conor Coventry is set to leave for Charlton within 24 hours.

It’s been on the cards for weeks that the midfielder will be on his way from the Hammers  with London Stadium insiders telling Claret and Hugh he will be allowed to move on before the end of his contract.

Now Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth has revealed the player is set to agree terms with the south London club after undergoing a medical .

Coventry has been with the Hammers since 2010 but has managed just one appearance since signing professional terms in 2018.

He has also played on loan for Lincoln City, Peterborough Milton Keynes Dons and Rotherham on loan. He also represents the Republic of Ireland at youth international level and is theirall-time record holder for the most appearances at U 21 level.

Many will believe that the player – who has looked particularly good in pre=season friendlies – should have been given more chances at first team level.

David Moyes has always spoken very well of him but clearly doesn’t believe he has what it takes to make it as a Premier League player and the deal takes place as Coventry enters the last six months of his contract.

No fee has been announced but is unlikely to be much more than £3 million at best.
