Hammers miss out on midfielder

West Ham have missed out on the signing of teenager Courtney Clarke.

The Telegraph reported in September that there were two Premier League clubs tracking the teen, who was then playing for non-league Whyteleafe FC in Croydon.

Those were the Hammers and Manchester City, with Clarke seen as a marauding central midfielder who could potentially make the leap to first-team football eventually.

However, it has now been announced that he has instead moved to Championship club Derby County.

The news was revealed by the Kinetic Foundation, a programme that helps young players find clubs and reach their potential.

Clarke has also updated his Instagram page, posting a new profile picture of himself in a Derby kit following the completion of his move.

Of course, it isn’t known just how interested the Irons were in bringing the teenager to the club but it seems there were various other clubs eyeing him up; the Telegraph also named Brighton, Millwall, and Charlton Athletic.

Derby, it seems, swooped in from nowhere.
