Hammers mystery men in limbo land

By Hughie Southon

With the Hammers having to hand in the squad list for the season later this month one wonders what to become of their two mystery men!

Once again – as in previous campaigns  – we have heard next to nothing about Conor Coventry, nor this time around Ben Johnson and in both cases their contracts run out in June of next year.

Conor seems to have been left on the sidelines for a long time although one might have expected the club to cash in with so many midfielders now available to the manager.

Should he not get minutes it seems certain he could be on his way in the winter unless he decides to become a free agent when what a club may have spent on a transfer fee would instead go in part perhaps into his pocket in personal terms.

Whichever way you look at it Conor’s is a peculiar situation and those of us who have seen him in action reckon him to be a very capable player with a killer pass ability.

Johnson meanwhile has been unable to agree terms and although he could be useful on the left side of the defence in emergencies also looks certain to be on his way at Christmas.
