The Hammers net spend excluding possible add-ons, agent fees or net deductions such as FIFA solidarity payments has hit £26.25m following yesterday’s sale of Pedro Obiang.
The summer has already seen the departures of Edimilson Fernandes £6.75m Lucas Perez £2m Sam Byram £750,000 and Marko Arnautovic £22.5m so the sale of Obiang for £6.25m takes that total to £38.25m
Pablo Fornals is reported to have cost £24m in instalments while Sebastian Haller is said to have cost £40.5m over the first 18 months meaning a total outlay of £64.5m.
That leaves the current West Ham net spend around previous averages with the chances of more big-money signing very unlikely unless further players are sold.
Jordan Hugill £3m and Javier Hernandez £8m are still possible candidates to raise more funds before the transfer window is over but loans, free agents and cheap transfers are remain late possibilities as Manuel Pellegrini puts the final touches to his 2019/2020 Premier League squad.
I think there’s a bit of overreacting going on here. I think we’re on the brink of a cracking squad and it’s great to see us doing smarter business buying young up and coming prospects that we wont have to pay to leave, on the contrary, we’ll be fighting off interest or making large profits from our forward thinking. We’ve also bought the wages down significantly. I think we’re realising just the level of waste there’s been here over the years.
I love seeing us improve the squad while ending up with more money than we started with. In terms of wages, that’s correct. All that being said, I don’t think we’re there yet and I think two more quality signings will give us a real chance at closing the gap on the top 6. I also think we’ll spend more money. I think our net spend should be 50m. I think that would be fair for the size of our club and where we want to go. Hmmm, that leaves about enough money for Kieran Tierney.
Worth a go.
Great shout on Tierney. With the wages down just shows what a lot of overpaid and underperforming individuals we had. Not a bad thing at all. Better to go for younger hungrier players.
Looks like Gold and Sully need to sell the club if we’re to push on.
Ok Sully giving Bolton 25m then ??
All the hype and talk and all we’ll ever be is a two bob team floating around basement to mid table mediocrity.
When do we start marching? LOL
With wage savings of at least £15.5m pa on top of this?
Wage saving approaching £18m, article on this later
60000 people every week at homes gmaes, every away game sold out, £100 million in Tv Money each season and our net spend is £26 million and we can only afford loan signings. Am i missing something here?
Yes all the TV money goes on wages…same as all clubs
So has the tv money been reduced significantly – as our wage bill has.
any thoughts re wage bill ?
It must be tumbling especially if we move on Hugill, Oxford and no doubt quite a few youngsters will go on loan.
Presumably Cullen and Browne may bring in something £2,5m each?
Oxford a similar figure?
Hugill will have to be paid to leave (!!) so a receipt for him is more likely to be at around £1.5m.
Either way there will hopefully be a small balance on top of the £30m suggested net spend at the outset of the window
