Hammers on revenge mission

Angelo Ogbonna’s elevation to first team duty following injury to Fabian Balbuena is becoming something of a revelation.

The central defender’s performance against Arsenal was particularly impressive as the Hammers produced a confidence boosting result ahead of the match against Bournemouth.

He looks unlikely to face the threat of Callum Wilson tomorrow (Sat) who is expected to be sidelined through injury as the Hammers seek revenge for an early season defeat by the Cherries.

And who can forget the equaliser they scored via the striker’s arm the previous year on Boxing Day at their gaff!

Ogbonna has slotted in very well alongside Issa Diop after some inconsistent displays at time but he is looking forward to putting it across Eddie Howe’s men.

With Manuel Pellegrini making it clear that the intention is solely on setting up a new run of victories Oggy will have a big part to play in the clean-sheet keeping stakes.

And he told www.whufc.com: “To win the game we need to play the same way we did against Arsenal and in other games as well,

I hope this time against Bournemouth it won’t be the same result. Anything can happen because it’s football, it’s the Premier League.”

“Firstly we are expecting to do much better than we did at home, that’s our expectation. We have to stay focused in this game,” he explained.

He added: “Everything comes from the training ground, the way you train, the way you prepare. The mentality of the team is good and we want to step up.”

“In football anything can happen so you have to be ready to play your part. We have a really big squad, a lot of players and everyone has to be ready.”

  1. I must say that I have been impressed by Ogbonna’s attitude – he has never thrown his toys after losing his place

When we lament the lack of loyalty of Arnie and others we should acknowledge the professional attitude of Ogbonna
