Hammers pour cold water over Rice loan claims

Manuel Pellegrini’s boast that he was responsible for ensuring that Declan Rice remained at West Ham rather than being allowed out on loan seems a long way wide of the mark.

ClaretandHugh has learned from its own insiders that there was never any question of the club’s prize asset being allowed out and that t here was never any inquiry for him.

Pellegrini declared that he may have had more faith in the player as a defensive midfielder than the club whom he claims may have been ready to loan him out as a central defender.

But we were told those claims simply weren’t real and that it was clear from an early age that Declan was going to do his developing at the club rather than outside of it.

Pellegrini’s decision to employ Mario Husillos as his director of football was shown to be his biggest error of all and his new club Real Betis blocked his hopes of taking him with him to the Spanish club following the disastrous purchases at West Ham

  1. I have read Pelle’s account and I instantly dismissed it.
WHO exactly decides which players remain at a club and which go out on loan?
The manager of course……..but he’s probably forgotten that he managed us by now if that’s what his tenure was…..as Manager?

  2. Wasn’t it Pellegrini’s idea to play Dec in midfield? He was a teenager moved to a new position away at Liverpool and it didn’t go well. By the next game he’d become a fine Premiership defensive midfielder. Just incredible. The second half yesterday was a masterclass

  3. I certainly don’t think all Husillos’ acquisitions were disastrous. Certainly Anderson, after an encouraging start and Haller failed to live up to expectations but I would argue that Balbuena, although now on his way, was a good addition, as were Diop and Fornals. And had it not been for a succession of injuries Yarmolenko would, I feel, have contributed much more. It could be be argued that maybe the medical department should have looked into his injury history with Borussia Dortmund before deciding his physical condition was OK.

For what it’s worth imo Harry Redknapp brought in far more costly failures during his tenure at the club than Husillos.
