In a fast moving afternoon with transfer targets being snapped up left, right and centre, the Hammers are working to replace the now-sold Nayef Aguerd.

West Ham United’s pursuit of defender Charlie Cresswell, the 23-year-old English centre-back currently playing for Toulouse in Ligue 1, seems to be proving difficult to complete. After a solid season in France—31 appearances, 3 goals, and 10 clean sheets— West Ham see him as a replacement for the outgoing Nayef Aguerd.

Originally developed at Leeds United, Cresswell left Elland Road in search of regular first-team football. His move to Toulouse paid off, with consistent performances and a starring role in England’s U21 European Championship triumph. Described by pundits like Henry Winter as a “leader,” he’s known for his physicality, aerial dominance, and aggressive defending.

Interestingly, Toulouse have reportedly already sold another defender, Jaydee Canvot, to Crystal Palace, subject to a medical, which is complicating West Ham’s pursuit of Cresswell. The French club are reluctant to lose two key defenders in one window, and have turned down a loan with an obligation to buy offer from West Ham. The club’s remain in talks yet with not long to go before the window close, West Ham are also moving forward with other defensive targets.

I have been a season ticket holder since the late eighties, so experienced the highs and lows of being a West Ham supporter. I previously wrote for OLAS and have contributed to a number of football publications in the past.

I hope West Ham don’t let the prospective transfer of Cresswell pass by for the sake of a couple of million, otherwise it will likely prove to be another one we regret in retrospect. He is a long-term solution to a problem, not the typical West Ham short-term sticking plaster.

For goodness sake just pay the full transfer fee to get Cresswell before the window closes at 7pm. 2 and a half months window has been open and the board and manager still failed to land our key targets while allowing our Academy talent to go out on loan further weakening our squad. “We tried” doesn’t cut it in the modern game.

Think they’ve been blinded by players they’ve signed.
Aware that Aguerd would be going one way or another should have signed replacement earlier.
How many c/bk have been linked, Julio/Cresswell/Mbi/Charles/Disasi/Hackney/Mwanga.
Latest is Oosterwolde who apparently bis has been accepted.
Pay the required fee and get Cresswell stop all this BS.
