Hammers put former striker on summer short list

defoe3Exclusive

West Ham are again looking keenly at Jermain Defoe as they bid to strengthen their striking options in the summer.

The 34 year old would in no way be the main striker target but should he become available on a free – which is BELIEVED to be the case if Sunderland are  relegated – the Hammers would be very interested.

The former Iron and England international has scored 14 of Sunderland’s 24 goals this season and although five have come from the spot that is a great return.

It is also noted among hammers Defoe watchers that several of the spot kicks have been won by the player himself.

rumour-raterHe will again be watched very closely when the Irons visit the Stadium of Light on April 15 as the club continue to explore his contract situation.

Even at his years Defoe wouldn’t come cheap  at around £70k a week wages but the Hammers are determined to beef up their options up front after a desperate season with such as Zaza, Calieri and injured Sakho and Carroll.

  1. 70k a week for a player that might play more than 30 games and score 15 – 20 goals, seems like a no brainer provided the transfer fee is not exorbitant. I hope we do sign him and he earns his forgiveness for his earlier career mistake.

  2. Hope he comes back and proves all his critics wrong . Might end up a cult hero now that capt terrible has made a fool of himself .
