West Ham United are reportedly eyeing a move for 24-year-old Colombian international Richard Rios, competing with Nottingham Forest and Tottenham Hotspur for his signature. The midfielder-and teammate of recent Hammers target Jhon Duran-currently plays for Palmeiras—the same club that we got Luis Guilherme from.
According to The Hard Tackle, Rios has drawn interest from several Premier League sides, though none are willing to meet his hefty €100 million release clause. Instead, clubs are understandably looking to lower that eyewatering exit clause for the big midfielder who has 2 goals in six games in Brazil’s Serie A.
Quite where these rumours come from is anybody’s guess, but as ever, Claret & Hugh will check with our sources and try to discover if there is any genuine interest in the player.
That said, I think the club would struggle to find a quarter of Rios’s buyout clause, although these figures are often inserted into contracts to deter rival clubs from making offers.
According to our top source at the London Stadium, the club was desperately trying to sign a midfielder up until the point new gaffer Graham Potter arrived at the London Stadium. Whether that means the new manager is happy with the composition of the squad or is willing to wait until next season is unclear.
C&H will get back to you with an update on the transfer rumour when we have clarification, but suffice to say, there is no circumstance in which West Ham will pay €100 million for an unproven midfielder
I swear I saw a story fairly recently that said we’d actually made a profit on the PSR thing, I won’t pretend to really fully understand it but the thing I saw said that we had money to spend in January just gone
The only good thing about our soulless disgrace of a “stadium” is that it’s pure profit, the fact not much of that profit goes back into the club is another matter.. we pay like 3 million a year in rent for it, and don’t pay for stewards or policing, pitch maintenance or heating and keep all ticket money, so like £60 (ish) x 60000 every other week, we should be rolling in it
Lol I’ve just checked, if we say the ticket price is on average £60, we make what we pay a year in rent every match day
I’m confused, yesterday C&H reported that “ Today reports abound of West Ham United’s loss and PSR situation being ‘serious’ with an £80m loss projected and that the club made be forced to sell one of its top players in the summer.” 24 hours later we see this story reporting links to a player who has scored 2 goals and a £100 million release clause? I honestly don’t know where some of the these reports begin as there is clearly a huge disconnect between the two stories.
Quite honestly this just makes us a laughing stock to every other club. One minute we are supposedly heading for a projected £80 million loss, the next we’re linked with players with £100 million release clauses!
If Steidten had come up with this he would have been rightfully criticised.
