Hammers ready to do cut price deal on striker

Despite reports to the contrary, the Hammers are ready to take half of the £10 million they paid out for Jordan Hugill.

Reports in the Northern Echo claim the Hammers will want their money back should Middlesbrough decide to make an offer for the player.

The reality is that after managing just seven goals from 34 appearances for his loan club manager Tony Pulis isn’t keen to do a deal for the 26 year old.

However, should he have a change of heart the Hammers would accept around £4m-£5m for the player signed by  David Moyes.

They would probably be lucky to get that sort of offer although there would probably be a chance were Boro to fail in their bid for a Premiership return.

Hugill may be able to do a job in the Championship at around that sort of fee but the PL looks a tad beyond him!.

Currently Boro look certs for the play offs with 67 points which puts them seven points off Sheffield United in second place and 11 off top placed Norwich.

  1. Weren’t we all saying the same thing about Snoddy at this time last year? “Could probably do a job in the Championship, but not really good enough for us”?

Personally, I don’t think he was given enough of a chance, and would welcome him back for pre-season to see if he can work himself into the manager’s plans. Especially given that we’re likely to be very light on strikers when Andy, Lucas and either Arnie or Javier leave…

Why not retain him as our third striker, bloody Silva as our fourth, perhaps keep either Arnie or Hernandez, and buy in Maxi Gomez? Whilst I, like all other fans would love to see us spend £150m on a revamped front line, we have to be realistic, and I cannot see Hugill being any worse than Perez! 🙂

    • In terms of effort Buddy Huggill is streets ahead of Perez its unfortunately his accuracy that is atrocious and lack of technical ability, Pellegrini wants very technical players and although I like Huggil’s attitude even as a sub I can’t see him making it onto the bench.

  2. I disagree with some of that, mate. Hugill doesn’t have (and never will have) the quality for the Prem. He certainly doesn’t have the finishing skills of Perez, who has never had a run in the side to prove it. Mark Noble says Perez is the best finisher in training, yet none of us have seen much of that ability. Perez will leave because he needs a starting place. West Ham will retain Chicharito (and Arnautovic if he wants to stay) Someone like Gomez is needed to replace Carroll. Snodgrass has improved this season, but with the likes of Lanzini, Anderson, Antonio, Nasri, Yarmolenko, Noble and, dare I say, Wilshere all fit, there’s no place for him on our bench.
