Hammers “real interest” in Swiss star

|

Fabian-ScharWest Ham are some way off doing a deal for Basel dedender Fabian Schar despite reports that they have provisionally agreed a fee and talks are “well down the road”.

The  23 year old very much fits the Hammers profile as they search for the best youngsters around and but with both Arsenal and Tottenham keen we have a battle on our hands for the central defender.

A club insider told ClaretandHugh the club’s interest in the Swiss international is real declaring: “There have been preliminary talks but there is a way to go. We’ll have to wait and see where it goes.”

Schar is one of Basel’s prized assets, but his contract expires in 2016 and that means he will be available at a knockdown fee..

He has nine caps for Switzerland and featured at the World Cup in Brazil
