West Ham first team coach Billy McKinlay failed to shut down reports that the Hammers will entertain bids for Nayef Aguerd.
Hammers refuse to kill Aguerd speculation
Managers, their assistants and powers-that-be generally ensure that negative player speculation is closed down as quickly as possible.
But that certainly didn’t turn out to be the case when David Moyes‘ assistant gave the pre–matchch presser for the FA Cup third round clash with Bristol City tomorrow (Sun).
Claret and Hugh‘s understanding is that the club were concerned that whilst the central defender was said to be sick and missed games for the hammers he announced himself fit to join the Morocco national team for Afcon.
There have also been worries about his inconsistent form this term when at times he has been excellent and at others quite worrying at the back.
But given the opportunity to kill off all the rumours entirely McKinlay refused whilst talking the player up.
He said: “I’m not quite privy to the speculation in relation to that one (Nayef Aguerd). But listen we’re happy with the players we’ve got, he’s been a really, really important player for us and I wouldn’t want to speculate too much on anything other than that.”
