Hammers release official Zouma statement

West Ham have confirmed that Kurt Zouma will miss this week’s Europa League quarter-final second leg against Lyon.

The France international has been in a protective boot since the loss to Brentford at the weekend.

And the Irons have now confirmed that he is not going to recover in time for the encounter with the Ligue 1 club.

He is set to remain in London for further tests on his ankle injury and will subsequently be unavailable for selection in the second leg.

The official statement reads: “West Ham United can confirm that Kurt Zouma will miss Thursday’s UEFA Europa League quarter-final second leg tie against Olympique Lyonnais.

“The France international defender is to remain in London for further tests and examination on the ankle injury he suffered during Sunday’s Premier League match at Brentford.

“Everyone at West Ham United would like to wish Kurt a speedy recovery.”

The tie is finely poised after the first leg ended in a 1-1 draw.

Aaron Cresswell is suspended for the second leg after his controversial sending off at the London Stadium, meaning it is likely that Issa Diop will replace Zouma and Arthur Masuaku will play at left-back.

In addition to that, midfielder Declan Rice will be suspended for the semi-final, should the Hammers get there, if he is booked in the second leg.

  1. is it not more likely ben johnson will play left back?

  2. We have longelo played left back in euro game earlier in the first stages and was mom. Yet stubborn moyes saw this and others who all played well . The problem with this team is not in the togetherness but a coach who has really bad skills as a coach and his cv shows this that he doesn’t learn. Chesters okuflex Ashby longelo alese all ready for game time if only given the chance as what’s the point of having youth coming through if you don’t use them and give ones like vlasic and masu game time before the youth get a chance and both these players are dreadful . Saying that rice broke through was slavs idea and we only have seen Johnson given a chance.

  3. We should not be in this position … Our best players should have been able to be rotated but Moye’s awful mismanagement of the personel, squad numbers and lack of commitment to the youngsters has resulted in injuries and fatigue which everyone knew , and predicted , would happen. Moyes is a one trick pony who survives on set piece plays and running his players into the ground . . Let us hope a take over happens and he is dispensed with asap .

  4. Agree 100% with the posts from claretwine and bubbles – I have been posting this for some time too, we are just flogging the same 12, no use of other internationals to fully rotate, negligence on behalf of U 23 players to the club and players’ detriment – we are in grave danger
