Hammers remain hopeful over defender

West Ham continue to hope that Ben Johnson may make it into the team on Thursday evening.

Sources inside the club are claiming this morning he still has a chance of making the game although a decision is likely to be made later today.

The 22 year old has been suffering from a tight hamstring sustained during England under 21 duty but we are told he has not  been ruled out at this stage.

Lyon meanwhile are without Lenny Pintor, Rayan Cherki and Sinaly Diomande.

Peter Bosz’s side may also be without Maxence Caqueret due to a knee injury and Karl Toko Ekambi is struggling with illness.

West Ham will attempt to take advantage of Lyon’s likely missing defender Jerome Boateng – a big free signing last summer when they took the defender from Bayern Munich. Unfortunately, he hasn’t really had the desired impact, and L’Equipe say he ‘can’t finish a match right now’.

Recently, ‘he’s only a passenger’, and that makes it doubtful he’ll start against West Ham on Thursday evening.

He’s only played two matches in two months, and recently questioned the tactics of manager Peter Bosz.

L’Equipe believe Lyon’s starting eleven will be: ‘A. Lopes – Dubois (cap.), Thiago Mendes, Lukeba, Emerson – Aouar, Ndombele – Faivre, Paqueta, Toko Ekambi – Mo. Dembélé.’
