Hammers remain keen on striker

|

West Ham remain focused on trying to sign Gabriel Barbosa from Flamengo in this transfer window despite him having the possible chance of joining the Brazilian outfit.

As reported here last night, the 23 year old striker is on loan at the club – beaten 1-0 by Liverpool last night – from Inter .

During his spell with the Brazilian champions he has scored 25 goals in 29 games and although he was quiet in the Club World Cup final last night the Hammers remain keen.

He demonstrated his eye for goal with with one overhead shot – Haller style – that he has a real goal instinct but failed to convince totally over the 120 minutes.

A new report this morning claims that early claims Flamenego had offered £80k a week personal terms are incorrect and that the wage would be closer to half of that.

And with Barbosa apparently keen for a return to Europe, the Hammers could easily beat the terms on offer for a striker whom Inter are reportedly ready to allow to leave for around £19m.

A source told us by e mail:  “We remain interested in the player whilst realising that it is always tricky signing quality players in the the winter window.”

I hope west ham sign Barbosa, I think he would be a great hit playing along side Heller. With Anderson and Antonio wide we would have some pace up front which would be more of a threat on the counter attacking style Pellegrini wants us to play… C.O.Y.I

As usual ; one minute being told we have no money to spend and then the next being told we are interested in Tom , Dick or Harry . The January window is very important for west ham and then the manager must either work with what he’s got or get sacked because the purse is empty . Results must improve regardless . Nothing is making sense in no way shape or form .
I remain a firm believer that the January Window should be shut forever . Teams and managers should have to work with what they’ve got . If a manager can’t handle it then it’s time to say goodbye . Money is no answer to the inability to use your players correctly or intelligently .
Cancel the January window and The get rich quick agents . Everyone and every team on a level playing field for the whole season .

Cancel the January transfer window . Every team/ club / manager should cope with what they’ve got . Buying players mid-season is to my mind just an excuse to cover up and is basically unsportsmanlike . If the players and managers that started the season aren’t up to it then that’s just hard luck or poor management . They bought the squad they have . You can change players in the summer ,, but managers are either good at thier job or they’re not .
    Ours , isn’t , end of .

We need to completely forget the one up top formation ,, it’s a disaster . We have the players that can deliver with a 442 or 352 ,,,, so it’s up to Pelligrini to make it work . We shouldn’t need January transfers If the manager wakes up .

Can you ask you source to confirm this means we have at least 20m to spend

Or is it more pie in the sky

Why buy another forward with no Premier League experience whatsoever who might take 6 months to come good, if at all? Is it a buy for the future or for now? If it’s for the future, than we must have more money than we’re led to believe in which case why wasn’t it spend in the summer? If it’s a purchase for now to lift us up the table, why gamble on someone who doesn’t look like the answer? Bring Scully in from the under-23’s and Holland too and see what they can offer. If they don’t manage to be up for it, at least we can loan them out for next season and it hasn’t cost us £20m for a maverick who isn’t fit for the Premier League. Then spend wisely in the summer (that wasn’t a joke, although it sounded like one!).

This season’s a write-off for us now; many better teams ahead of us for a top 7 place. Already time to try a few new things out with the guys we have and look at what we need to move forward next season

We all know there is zero percent chance of this ever happening. Every window is the same lots of speculation about high profile targets, none of which we come close to signing. A cynical person would suggest it’s a way of misleading the wider world we have owners that are committed to getting us to the next level. Where evidence suggests we promise the World but deliver a snow globe.
