Hammers reopen transfer talks

|

By Dave Langton

West Ham have reopened talks with Chelsea over a deal for Emerson Palmieri.

We reported earlier this week that the deal was on the verge of collapse, despite the Hammers offering £13m to sign the left-back.

That came down to a difference over personal terms but the Irons are hopeful of reaching a compromise as they attempt to strengthen the full-back position.

The Irons have allowed Arthur Masuaku to leave on loan and the Irons have made it a priority to add a new left-back to the squad.

It remains to be seen if Emerson is willing to lower his demands but talks are ongoing with his camp, as well as with the Blues over a fee.

The Irons do have other options in the position but they are aware that time is against them when it comes to completing a squad revamp this summer.

Vlad Coufal played at left-back in the Europa Conference League against Viborg.

Ashby played at right back and looked very comfortable. I think between Ashby and Johnson we have our right back covered for the next 10+ years. Coufal played left back and didn’t look to composed out there be honest. Shows that we do need cover in that area, which we all know anyway

I think you mean Vladimir Coufal played at left-back against Viborg last night.
In demanding an unbelievable wage hike, I see it as him signalling to his new teammates that he is a Big Dog arriving from a Big Club. Hopefully, the realisation has hit Emerson Palmieri and his agent that this posturing is nonsense and he has now tempered his demands accordingly.
Having said all of that, Emerson Palmieri will make a huge difference to our defence.

I really hope West Ham don’t sign the very average, Emerson. An investment in young Thomas from Leicester is a better move now we have Kehrer, who is versatile at both centre-back and left back for the German national team.

Harrison Ashby played right back last night vs Viborg. It was Vladimir Coufal who operated on the left.

Ahem, I think you’ll find that Coufal played left back against Viborg.
