Hammers respond after moronic Salah abuse

|

The supporter was filmed on a mobile phone from a section of home supporters and the footage, taken by a Liverpool fan in the West Ham end, shows expletives directed at Salah including about his Muslim religion.

In a statement, West Ham said they have “a zero tolerance policy to any form of violent or abusive behaviour”.

It continued: “We are an inclusive football club. Anyone identified committing an offence will have their details passed to the police and will face a lifetime ban from London Stadium.

“There is no place for this kind of behaviour at our stadium.”

The Liverpool fan who posted the video on Twitter said: “I was disgusted by what I was hearing. People like this deserve no place in our society let alone football matches.”

Police are aware of the incident.

“We are dismayed to see yet another high-profile incident of discrimination in English football,” anti-discrimination charity Kick It Out said in a statement.

“We are pleased that West Ham officials have expressed their determination to identify the supporter and take firm action – this type of behaviour is simply unacceptable and must be challenged swiftly and decisively.”

ClaretandHugh says: Having seen the video – which we have no intention of displaying on this site – one thing needs to be said straight away. This is a one-man’s outburst which demonstrates the moronic behaviour of some football fans that all true followers of the game despise. However, we have to be realistic and ask  just how a football club or any other organisation can stop one person among a crowd of 60,000 from shouting his poison – which didn’t even amount to a chant. That defies imagination. There was no chanting, no sort of organised abuse demonstration, just the one, possibly two or three, demonstrating their ignorance and loathsome attitudes. That police, and no doubt, the footballing authorities no doubt have been notified is a given but let there be no talk of an investigation into West Ham because quite frankly that would be outrageous. I wonder what the individual with the mouth would think were the Hammers to sign Salah – no doubt welcome him with open arms!

    Fair comment.

    However,

    ……”inclusive football club”……….

Historically, West Ham and inclusive is indeed an oxyMORON!

4FF what is your point here? whufc state that “we are an inclusive club” i have been attending for 45 years and i can confirm that we are indeed an inclusive club, no matter what has happened over the decades, we are where we are. this is correct and i’m sure the shouter will be identified and dealt with, and rightly so there is no place for him. so why are you suggesting whufc is NOT an inclusive club, say what you mean don’t leave cryptic messages.

During the cup game against Tottenham earlier this season I brought my wife to the game, there was this idiot making racist comments about Alli, most of the fans looked at him when it was half time he made for the bar and I tried to catch up with him, I found a few other fans doing the same and calling him out for it, so this shows that most of us are still old school in dealing with our own problems in house. There is a moronic element at every club, the first time I came across it was in the 80’s when I was 16 at another Tottenham match standing in the North Bank when a certain song was sung that made anti-semitic / anti-pakistani comments and I told the idiots singing it which was quite a number to shut it, which prompted them to start throwing punches to which I responded in kind all of us got thrown out including my mates who joined in. Probably never the ideal response and I have certainly changed my approach since my hot headed younger days but its good to see we continue the fight against racism / prejudice at our great club.

Sad that it’s a 26 year old who should know better.

Let’s not go overboard here. Every club in the land has a very small minority of obnoxious, racist fans. Sadly I don’t think it will ever be stamped out completely because there will always be the odd neanderthal. But the club are trying to do their best. Go to any ground this weekend and you will hear some ignoramus spouting the same bile. Sad but true. As long as our club and fans are doing their utmost to stop such idiots we cannot really be held responsible for the odd nutter.

Good to hear that club is dealing with the matter emphatically.
No place for racism, no matter what environment.
Also, I hope th the club ban the season ticket holder who sold the seat to a koppite. I’m sick of these people who deny our fans the opportunity to attend games by flogging tickets to rival fans.
