Hammers respond to new Rice/Chelsea link

West Ham have not been contacted by Chelsea at any time over the possible sale of Declan Rice.

However, they are aware through agents that were N’Golo Kante to be sold then there could be some interest from Stamford Bridge.

We reported earlier that The Sun had run a story this morning claiming that Frank Lampard wanted to make Declan a priority buy and that he was ready to pay just £45 million for the Irons star man.

But there has been absolutely no club to club contact since the story first emerged around a year ago and that has remained unchanged over recent days.

Kante has been regularly linked with both Barcelona – who are struggling financially anyway following the squad taking pay pauses – and Real Madrid.

The player, however, is happy in London and has no desire to leave unless Chelsea decided they wanted to sell him which is unlikely in the extreme.

We AGAIN checked the Rice story this morning and were told categorically by a Hammers insider that there had been no contact with the Stamford Bridge outfit “at all.”

And he said in a phone call to us: “For  a fee of £45 million is pathetic but in the real world there has been no contact whatsoever although the agents are always busy aren’t they.”
