Hammers reveal Ashby to Newcastle facts

By Dave Langton

Harrison Ashby is currently very unlikely to join Newcastle.

Sources have told C&H that any deal for the right-back is very difficult for the Magpies to achieve.

He only has one year left on his contract at the London Stadium but manager David Moyes is loathe to lose such a useful squad player at such a late point in the transfer window.

Ashby has struggled for a first-team breakthrough at West Ham but he is the reserve right-back, behind both Vlad Coufal and Ben Johnson.

The difficulty in sourcing a replacement so late in the window makes any deal very unlikely, although Newcastle do have a big budget, and could make a very tempting offer in the final hours of the window.

Still, at this stage of the day, Ashby is more likely to be remaining at the London Stadium than moving up north to the Magpies.

January, of course, may be a different story.

  1. Can’t get my head around this today. Why are we supposedly looking for a right back anyway if the Doherty and Aina rumours are true. We have 3 of our own in Coufal. Johnson and Ashby. If anything and if it was me I would allow Coufal to go and hope to keep Johnson and Ashby as our right backs for the next 10+ years.

  2. Hi Dave are we likely to get anyone else signed before the deadline ? Thanks

  3. This would be very short-sighted of West Ham to allow Harrison Ashby to leave tonight. It’s possible that Vladimir Coufal could move on inside the next 12 months and it would only take a long term injury to him or Ben Johnson to leave us very short of right back cover.

For me, Ashby is the brightest prospect of all of the young players we’ve either sold, released or loaned out in this current window.

  4. It’s just been announced on the Transfer Show that Ashby is staying at West Ham.

Best news I’ve heard all day.

  5. Smelly
    Agreed.
Get rid of our possible right back/wing back for the foreseeable future for some of cheap option.
