Ghana came from goal down to beat Central African Republic, and secure their qualification to January’s African Cup of Nations. And West Ham’s own Mohammed Kudus was the start of the show as he pulled his team level with a stunning freekick.
The 2-1 victory means that Kudus will be missing for almost a month, depending on how Ghana perform in the tournament. The AFCON begins on the 13th of January and runs until February 11th.
However, clubs will be expected to release their players early to attend pre-tournament build-ups.
Nayef Aguerd, Said Benrahma are both expected to attend and miss up to a month of Premier League football. Winger Maxwel Cornet can also be added to that list. The Ivory Coast are hosting the tournament, and as a result will not need to qualify.
Whilst the Hammers are nicely stocked in defensive areas, the left wing may be cause for concern. Fortunately the January transfer window will afford us the opportunity to plug any gaps in the squad.
