Hammers seriously keen on Ligue 1 ace

By Dave Langton

The Hammers have confirmed their interest in signing Nayef Aguerd from Ligue 1 club Rennes.

Aguerd has been with Rennes since 2020 and the Irons were interested in doing a deal to secure his signature last summer, although they eventually opted to sign Kurt Zouma from Chelsea instead.

A top Irons source close to the possible move has now confirmed to ClaretandHugh that there is definite  interest in signing Aguerd in the next transfer window.

The 26-year-old has a contract that runs until 2025 and would cost around £20m.

Boss David Moyes has been promised that he will be backed in the next window with bids set to go in  for his top targets.

The manager is desperate to secure a new central defender in the summer after seeing his backline decimated by injuries this season.

Only Craig Dawson has avoided injury this term and Moyes wants to bolster his defence with new additions.

Aguerd has made 78 appearances for Rennes in total and is also a full Morocco international, with 19 caps to his name.
