Hammers set for better Euro chance

|

West Ham’s chances of reaching Europe are likely to be increased by the introduction of a new Uefa-organised competition.

The plan was first mooted three years ago and the aim is to give clubs such as ours a better opportunity of hitting the Euro level.

The Uefa plan still needs the approval of its executive committee but the hope is it will be in place by the 2021/22 season.

It will sit alongside the Champions League competition as well as the Europa League which would see the overall number of clubs involved in European football grow to 96.

The CL structure is likely to stay as it is though the number of clubs involved in the secondary competition will fall from 48 to 32 as Uefa attempts to spread the quality.

It means that sides from smaller nations will compete in the new tournament designed basically for online platforms.
