Darren Randolph is reported close to making a return to the Hammers after making it clear to Middlesbrough he wants to rejoin us.
The news comes from https://www.oneboro.co.uk/boro-news/randolph-set-for-west-ham-united-medical-transfer-fee-agreed-6120 where The Athletic is said to have mentioned fee of £4 million being agreed.
And Hammers sources are making it clear privately that they now expect the deal to go through after the player made his position clear to Boro.
The 32 year old sees this as his last opportunity of making a decent money move and is also keen for a return to the capital.
Boro are unhappy at his likely departure but the player’s insistence has made their resistance impossible to maintain and it will be a surprise if the stopper isn’t back at the Hammers within a few days.
He has become a real fans favourite at Boro but it now looks a given that they will be giving him a fond farewell.
Speculations had been rife regarding his future in recent weeks with West Ham United keen on reuniting with the Irish international.
One source told CandH this morning on the phone: “He is the perfect back-up goalkeeper and it’s a deal that would suit both sides if it can be made to happen.”
Pleased with the fight back in the players under moyes.
This is a bit groundhog day now tho.
Anyone know what nordvielt is up to nowadays ?
Clearly better than Roberto (is he even a keeper) but no one seems to remember him getting bullieed big time from crosses to the point we were begging slaven to put adrian back in.
Not them most inspiring signing. Suppose we better get used to that now.
FGS Martin is great but nowhere near Randolph, an international keeper, who is also not as good as Fabianski. Roberto is worse than all of them. Anang isn’t ready.
He counts as home grown so it frees up a squad place for another, and he himself is both reliable and relatively well priced.
If you want to switch around the squad balance, it’s a no brainer.
It’s that simple.
I know it’s early in the year but switch on people.
I see this signing as a direct replacement for number 2 (officially Roberto) so I’d take him. From what i know he is also a good character in the dressing room. As someone has mentioned there’s probably fees still outstanding from previous dealings with Boro. I can only guess/hope we have a Spanish buyer lined up to take on Rob where his reputation isn’t as tarnished as here.
if martin is vunerable at corners , then i dont know what you can say about randolph at corners, hes far worse.
dont know what we need another keeper for anyway. with martin, and u23 keeper we should be ok until end of season.
then at some stage surely trott will be back , and competing for a place in the 1st team.
Randolph is a good 2nd. Let’s not get too sentimental over David Martin. He is not as good a Randolph. He kept a clean sheet at Chelsea, because they was terrible. Other than he’s only looked ok because Roberto is soooo bad a broom stick in goal looks good in comparison.
I have nothing against David Martin, his dad was a hero and by all accords he seems like a lovely person too. However he is a 3rd choice keeper.
David Martin is not as good as Randolph. He has been very lucky in the games we have played and looked vunerable at corners. Watching him against Southampton was a nervy experience and we were lucky to win that game.
martin did well to come in and do what he did but he hasn’t got the same quality as randolph
i’d actually prefer martin over roberto but randolph is another level entirely… and fab is another level above randolph
#1 fab
#12 randolph
excellent business imho, 4 million isn’t a bad deal either
Me thinks Middlesbrough might still owe our board some money for the Fletcher deal and the Randolph deal when we sold these two off last time? So the 4 mill might be some of what they still owe us ? So our board are not laying out 4 mill? More recouping what’s owed?? Just a thought I.M.O when they could get other goalkeeper’s on loan ???
Terrible signing if truth be told. This was one of my fears that we would now recruit championship standard. Boro must be laughing all the way to the Bank at getting 4M. He is not even their no 1 anymore. Clueless is the only word I can say here. I also see us linked with Clyne who cannot get into the Bournemouth team, a team we beat 4-0 at the weekend. Terrible management of a business.
is tough for Clyne to get into a team he left 6 months ago tbf
nah.. he is a quality keeper… better than adrian which he did show.. people just have short memories
I am a believer in that you cannot read the book again !!
David Martin is surely as good as Randolph, Adrian > Martin = Randolph.
If £4m is the price it seems extortionate we should be looking for someone at least as good as Adrian and that is young enough to be resold.
Randolph last time was also found to be breaching disciplinary rules with late night drinking sessions if I remember correctly ?
This man scared the ???? out of me last time around. He just stood on the goal line watching the ball go passed him. He never came of the goal line to collect a cross, and completely caused our defenders to loose all their confidence. I can’t believe it.
Yep why not a loan. Very average keeper at best. I think Martin is just as good.
4m for Randolph !!! We must have a big budget for this window. Crazy for a very average keeper. Loan option surely a better option and invest this 4M into a proper midfielder.
In my opinion , johnham1 , we can’t rely on Roberto or Martin and Randolph is a proven keeper and a decent backup for Fabs . Not a bad deal in fact .
randolph is criminally underrated by west ham fans.. he is an excellent keeper.. far better than roberto and martain.. that is plain to see
fab is unquestionably #1
but randolph coming in will give the whole team a lift.. he has the quality to remove any doubt about who is guarding the goal for the 10 outfield players
