Hammers set for quick decision on manager

West Ham are hoping to appoint the next permanent manager of the club within a couple of weeks of the season ending on Sunday.
The decision looks set to be made ahead of the end of season review where such matters are generally resolved.
David Moyes remains in the frame but the club has a shortlist of names and want to make the decision fast as the whole recruitment scenario the club wants to put in place relies upon it.
They need to ensure they go through the correct consultative process with the manager before appointing a recruitment head and ensuring the two men are on the same page.
The club – knowing that the transfer window will be shortened this season – need to identify player targets under the men in charge and move quickly.
They can make no player approaches until the window opens and hope to have the two men in place to start work on negotiations the minute it does.

  1. There might be a better manager than Moyes – but am not sure who – just to note that Swansea are now in trouble yet after they beat us Carvalhal looked like a world beater – similarly last season Hull collapsed in the last few games under Marco Silva (and Watford showed a similar pattern). The Daves are supposedly known for supporting their managers but we are already on our 5th manager since they took over (as Zola, Grant, BFS and Slav bit the dust) Whether Moyes or someone else what we need now is some stability

  2. Zahama can you explain what stability looks like?

  3. Don’t think we have to consult ‘Mystic Meg’ to know who’ll be managing West Ham next season…..

  4. Marco Silva all day long before Everton snap him up. He is light years ahead of Moyes for tactics and player management. If we are even considering the likes of Moyes we are doomed to another season of struggle whatever players we bring in. If Moyes was manager of Liverpool he’d have Firminio up top isolated and Salah and Mane on the bench, we need to get away from the negative tactically inept managers who we’ve recently employed, until then we are all wasting our time.

  5. Before we start throwing names around as to who we want there are 2 questions that need answering, 1, who is realistically available, 2, who would want to mange the club?

  6. Danbee-this is not a dig mate but I genuinely want to know what your view of Silva as light years ahead of Moyes is based on. He may know every tactical formation under the sun but it didn’t keep Hull up & he was having trouble getting a tune out of a Watford squad which in my opinion should have been doing better.

Just hope they do get this sorted quickly. The issues listed on here go deeper than just who the boss is & they need sorting!

Hugh – can’t player deals be sorted unofficially before the window opens? I thought we got Markro in June last year…

  7. Crewe Hammer – fair comment – stability does not look like Watford changing their manager every year and in the case of the Hammers it does not look like Slaven being told he has three games to save his job and not buying Carvalho (or offering something close to the asking price) as the two Daves are not sure whether Slav will be staying and the new manager may not want him (so rather get Renate Sanchez on loan) – maybe stability is the opposite of the above

  8. While Rafa is the safest bet with his impressive cv, track record and experience. There’s just something about it that tells me it is short term. I just don’t feel he will have the enthusiasm to manage a club like ours after managing some of europe’s elite in the same way silva would. I think after seeing the success of the young new breed of managers particularly guardiola, klopp and potecchinno they have imposed their innovative philosophies. While marco silva at watford had a bad run of form at the end, he had elements of building something and delivering a brand that was punching above their weight. The watford team at the beginning f the season reminded me of our team at the last season at the boleyn.
There’s something about silva that would tell me it’s long term and some stability which we desperately need.
