War over Fornals contract
Former Leeds United Director of Football Victor Orta wanted to sign Pablo Fornals while at Elland Road. Orta, now at Sevilla, is reportedly keen to sign Fornals again, but a contract extension at West Ham may complicate the deal.
It’s clear that Sevilla were banking on Fornals being a free agent to sign him from West Ham in the summer. However, it’s understandable why The Hammers would be unwilling to take a £20m loss on a player signed under Manuel Pellegrini’s reign.
I’m sure Fornals was unhappy with the contract extension, but the Premier League is awash with so much money that most continental sides can’t compete. However, West Ham have lost money money themselves on players like Nikola Vlasic, Sebastien Haller, and Felipe Anderson that there is no appetite within the club to lose more.
If Sevilla wishes to sign Fornals, they’ll have to find a fee in the region of £10m or wait 18 months to get him for nothing.
Perhaps we are still interested in a certain striker. Pablo could become a bargaining chip.
Hi,
It won’t be a 20 mio loss as the fee pay would have been amortised annually …he signed in 2019 so the vast majority would should be gone by summer 2024
