Hammers short of centre back options

West Ham were short of choices for center-backs for this afternoon’s friendly against Luton Town with David Moyes playing what appears to be a 3-4-2-1 formation.

Kurt Zouma was the only available senior centre back with Nayef Aguerd out injured and Issa Diop and Craig Dawson out with knocks.

Angelo Ogbonna was rested as he played in yesterday’s Under 23 game while Fabianski was also rested with Areola, Randolph and Trott available

The team was announced as: Areola, Johnson, Zouma, Cresswell, Coufal, Souček, Rice (c), Masuaku, Benrahma, Fornals, Bowen

Subs: Randolph (GK), Trott (GK), Baptiste, Ashby, Coventry, Downes, Lanzini, Oko-Flex, Vlašić, Antomio, Mubama

At Half Time it is one Nil to the Hammers courtesy of a trademark Tomas Soucek header from an Aaron Cresswell cross.

Aguerd, Ogbonna, Dawson and Diop are all expected to be available for the beginning of the season in two weeks time as Moyes puts the final touches to his pre-season preparations.

  1. Well Sean the line up was deja vu from last year, and clearly the reason that young Alese left us. No intention of playing the U23 v/B on the bench, Baptiste, even though there are injuries throughout the first team squad. For a bloody friendly!!! He will not choose players who are at the age that Bobby Moore was playing for England in that position. I’ve seen both with my own eyes. We got what we deserved again.
