Hammers sign rampaging defender for £20M

|

West Ham United have signed Greek international and formers Arsenal defender Konstantinos Mavropanos. The rampaging defender has joined following the breakdown of talks with Harry Maguire.

The Hammers moved quickly to seal the deal with the imposing central defender, who was pictured alongside Tim Steidten at the weekend. His presence at the Chelsea game set tongues wagging, as he observed West Ham’s Premier League victory.

The timing of the £20m transfer couldn’t be better. Nayef Aguerd is serving a suspension following his red card against Chelsea on Sunday.

Speaking to the clubs TV channel, Mavropanos said. “I am really happy and excited to be here – and to be back in the Premier League with West Ham United. It’s an exciting time to be joining the Club after last season’s Conference League win – and I am really looking forward to the next step in my career. I can promise the fans I will give everything for them and the shirt.”

The defender will be available for selection ahead of the weekends trip to high flying Brighton. Having formerly lived in London, there should be no real settling in period required.

At VfB Stuttgart, Mavropanos demonstrated his all-round game and should be ideally suited to The Premier League.

A great signing 👏 now we need attacking players and a LB or RB if Cress moves in

The 3 signings we have made for a total of 80m are all moyes signings not Steinden. We lost an x rated player and i was hoping we would sign at least 2 x rated players but we have not and from my point of view we have spent the Rice money poorly. Kudus is an x rated player but we will sign players En Nesyr and Etikike who both struggled to perform last season. As did Lingard. In this window we had to sign x rated players up top with quality and pace to transition ftom defence to attack quickly (Kudus, Doku, Johnson etc) but it looks like we have got it all wrong again. In my opinion we have not spent the Rice money correctly. We shoild have targrted 2-3 x rated signigs and promoted 2-3 younger players. So far it has been a let down – extremely disappointing with 10 days to go.
