CandH Exclusive: Hammers snubbed Lukaku option

CandH Exclusive by Hughie Southon

West Ham boss David Moyes is understood to have turned down a summer window striker option in the shape Romelu Lukaku!

We reported last night that one of our sources had explained the manager could not agree with the recruitment committee that a “journeyman playing in Europe” was the right player for the club at this stage.

We have since been told by another source that was Lukaku.

The Belgian is at Roma on loan from Chelsea and last season scored a dozen Serie A goals and a further two in the Champions League,

Our understanding is the 30 year old had the approval of Tim Steidten but on the basis that the manager always has the last word his rejection of the option saw the player stay in Serie A.

It could be that Moyes did not want to push up the age profile of the club although Lukaku has been a prolific goal scorer over a career which has taken in his current loan club, Chelsea, Inter Milan. Manchester United, Everton and West Brom.
